with Petite Rachelle x The Neon Tea Party

If you saw my last post about the New Nude, you'll know that I'm currently crushing on all things patchy. Patches have sprung back from the 90s with a vengeance, affixing themselves to everything from jeans and jackets, to beanies and backpacks. Not only are patches an easy way to transform an old item in your closet, they are a super fun and affordable way to channel your inner Marc Jacobs and let your creative juices flow. Because when was the last time you did a fun art project? Probably the last time your 7th grade self rocked some patches! So I decided to team up with my most DIY-tastic and incredibly talented friend Marisa of The Neon Tea Party to show you how to patch play, the beanie way!

Few supplies are needed, and you likely already have most of them in your closet.

Placing out our patches: my beanie on the left and Marisa's on the right. Of course I had to add a french twist to mine ;)

The Neon Tea Party is a vibrant lifestyle destination for all things playful, eclectic, and neon (naturally). Marisa is a pro when it comes to DIY, so who better to teach me (and all of you) how to turn a beanie into a creative work of wearable art? So head on over to Marisa's post to get the full step-by-step for this DIY, and keep scrolling below to see how our final products turned out and how I rocked mine with a monochromatic look.

For styling this look I knew I wanted to pair it with a monochromatic outfit so that the patches would really stand out. But what I love about this black and grey outfit is that even though it's mainly all one color, the different materials and textures make it feel two-dimensional. By pairing my faux leather pants against the suede boots, the cotton sweater with my velvet choker, and my croc clutch to tie it all together, the outfit feels cohesive yet edgy.

During the winter here in NYC we're constantly layering up to stay warm and it can be hard to feel chic under so many layers. So have fun with the layers and use them to not only stay warm, but stay stylish. Plus a patched beanie is the perfect way to add some flair to a monochromatic look while also keeping you cozy. This trend is definitely a #petitepick in my book.

Bisous to my girl Marisa for such a fun day of styling, DIY-ing, and collaborating!
